Drug addiction is one of the many human development problems hurting the poor and vulnerable the most in Pakistan. Having Afghanistan, the worlds largest poppy producing nation, as its neighbor, Pakistan serves as one of the major smuggling route for most of it. While in transit to other countries across the world, a huge quantity is spilled over within Pakistan itself. Consequently the domestic consumption of heroine has increased dramatically in Pakistan. It is estimated that about 50 tons of opium is smuggled into Pakistan for processing and domestic use alone.
