Sylhet, Bangladesh. 30th May 2024. A woman stands in a submerged house in the Sarighat area of Sylhet's Tamabil road in Jaintapur upazila. Many residents have evacuated to safe shelters due to heavy rains from Cyclone Remal. The sudden floods, caused by water descending from Meghalaya's mountains, have trapped about three lakh people in Jaintapur, Goainghat, Kanaighat, and Jakiganj upazilas.

The low-lying and haor areas of three unions in Sylhet's Jaintapur upazila were inundated due to flash floods prompted by heavy rainfall and water from hill slopes. Around 300 thousand people in four upazilas have been trapped in the water due to the sudden floods.
