Description:
Roots of Mangrove trees in Sundarban, Bangladesh. Mangrove trees have roots (called pneumatophores) that act like snorkels to allow the trees to 'breathe' in the oxygen-poor mud and also when the tide is high. Other roots (called stiltroots) are spread out widely around a tree so that the tree will be stable, especially during sea storms.
