There are several large constructions going on in the Mangpoo area on both sides of the road where cinchona plants are dying before the quinine extraction. Cinchona is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. Originally a South American plant, cinchona was brought to India by the British colonizers. India's only quinine-making unit Government quinine factory at Mungpoo was Established in 1874, much before Indiaâs Independence, and the factory has been shut since 2001.
