Commenting about the school she said, âMy father sent me to the school. I am so happy that I can begin to learn now. I do not want to grow up to be an illiterate adult. I work all day and attend school only for two hours. I wish my school hours were longer.â
There are over 70 brick kilns in Surkh Road District, about 10km south of the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan. About 50 families work in each brick kiln. Usually, labourer who work in these brick kilns are bonded labour through money collected for their labour in advance. In return, families along with their children work until their debts are paid off; a new cycle of loan and work begins as soon as one finishes, thus it continues endlessly until children become adult and they have children of their own.
