Description:
On 19 February, a boy scavenges through earthquake rubble for scrap metal, near several small fires, at a dump site near the Parc Jean Marie Vincent settlement, in the Piste Aviation neighbourhood of Port-au-Prince, the capital. He will sell the metal, which will be recycled, at a scrap shop. After decades of hardship and political instability and despite pressing need, Haitians remain both resilient and inventive amid disaster. An estimated 25,000 people who have been displaced by the earthquake presently live in the settlement.
