Ruins of the Royal Palace at the top of Sigiriya rock, in Matale district of Sri Lanka. This 370 meter high lava mound of an ancient volcano is famous for the fortified palace complex, built during the reign of King Kasyapa, 477 495 AD. After his death, the place was turned into a Buddhist monetary. It is one of the seven World Heritage sites in Sri Lanka and is also a popular tourist destination. June 28, 2008.
