A member of Kuomintang force, Qu Gochai, 60, is slowly gathering dried cabbage from the front yard of his house. He is plagued with parasites and many other diseases that he allows to eat away his life because he could not afford to get medical treatment. Last year, he saved up enough money and went to visit his mother and sister who still live in Lanchang District of Yunnan. He knows very well that he could never go home again. The last time he hugged his mother, neither of them were certain who would pass away first. Thailand. December 10, 2007. The Kuomintang or KMT, a moderate socialist democratic party was founded in 1912, by several revolutionary groups and ruled much of China from 1928 until their defeat by the Communist Party of China, in 1949. The Kuomintang forces had to flee in Taiwan and Thailand from Communist persecution. In Thailand, there descendents have settled in the area of Baan Tam-Ngob, Chaiprakarn, Doi Mae Salong, Chiang Rai Province. Today there are very few exiled Kuomintang soldiers still alive. They try to preserve as much historical evidence in their area as they can.
