Description:
Pottery, an age old trade, is facing extinction at the Kumar Para (potters community) in Kaalipur village in Banshkhali, Chittagong. There were more than 80 families in the community involved in the trade of clay but now it has come down to an alarming number. Only five families stubbornly cling to the business. The reason behind leaving the trade is many: high cost of materials, the ever losing race against plastic and aluminum wares, low price and many more. The potters of the area say that they are trying hard to save the ancient trade which has lost its glory due to lack of attention and care. Bangladesh. May 15, 2009..
