Children collected water lilies from a marsh. Water lily, known as shapla is an aquatic plant of the genus Nymphaea. In Bangladesh there are two species, N. nouchali (blue variety) and N. pubescens (white variety). Among the two the latter is has been designated as the national flower of Bangladesh. The stalk of the flower is a popular vegetable in the rural areas. The tuberous rhizomes are also eaten. Fried seeds are eaten as puffed grains in some place. Kaliganj in Gazipur, Bangladesh.
