  • Description:  Holding an umbrella to protect herself from continuous rain, Hasina (11 years old) stands next to her father where her house used to be. Their house has been swept away as it never existed. She said, “All this years we lived here, but there is nothing left. Everything, my books, toys, even my friends, everything is gone. I don’t know where my friends are.”.The day tsunami struck, she was playing with her 9 months old cousin outside her house. She saw people running shouting water is coming. She ran inside her house, gave baby to her mother and ran outside her house, away from approaching water. Inside her house, her mother too tried leaving, but by then water had reached her house and she could not get out. She (her mother) was thrown around by the water and in the process, got severely injured and lost baby child. They never found baby again..Maruthamunai village. Ampara District. Eastern Sri Lanka.
