We were walking on the side of the road (Galle Road from Colombo to Galle). Traffic was unusually heavy. I thought there must be an accident on the road ahead. Suddenly there was a big panic. Everyone was shouting and running. We also got frighten and started running back towards home, but it was too late. As soon as we turned, we got hit by a huge wave and sank. I was in the water for a long time and could not come out. I thought I was dying. I was still under water when my mother grabbed me and pulled me out. I dont know how long we were in the water. We kept rolling. It was like diving in the sea, only waves were far stronger.
