Description:
A woman in a traditional mask known as Nakab in the village Kohestak , 45 km away from the South of Menab city in Hormogan Province. The mask is usually worn by rural women in Southern Iran. A little difference in colour or design of the mask can have significant meanings. For instance, red masks are usually worn by married women and black masks are worn by unmarried women or widow. Again, red masks with black rectangular border around eyes are worn during sad events like funerals, etc. Quality of mask and use of gold in mask signify higher status of women and their families. Iran. January 25, 2004.
