- Description: People of the port city Chittagong brings out a mourning rally at the Central Shaheed Minar, this afternoon, in memory of the soldiers and civilians killed in the two day long mutiny at the Bangladesh Rifles, BDR, Headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka on 25th and 26th February, 2009. The unruly BDR soldiers took over the BDR headquarters, killed army officers including the Director-General, fired on some civilians, held many of their officers hostage, vandalized property and looted valuables. By the second day unrest spread to 12 other towns and cities. The mutiny ended as the mutineers surrendered their arms and released the hostages after a series of discussions and negotiations with the government. The conflict left as many as 148 people dead or missing. Chittagong, Bangladesh. March 2, 2009.
