Nepalese police opened fire Thursday on tens of thousands of pro-democracy protesters who defied a curfew to march toward the capital, killing at least three and wounding dozens more, witnesses and hospital officials said. Nepal became a democratic country on 5, 2006 after the royal proclamation. At least 17 people lost their lives and more than 6,000 were injured, some seriously, during the pro-democracy movement. Several injured are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country, mostly in the capital.
