Description : The Mirisawetiya Vihara, a historic Buddhist stupa located in the sacred city of Anuradhapura. It was built by King Dutugemunu around 140 B.C. to commemorate his victory over the Chola King Elara. According to tradition, the king built this stupa as an apology after consuming chili curry without first offering food to monks, violating a personal vow. The stupa features a distinct, large, white hemispherical dome, characteristic of ancient Sinhalese architecture. It is one of the eight sacred places (Atamasthana) in Anuradhapura visited by the Buddha, making it a major site for Buddhist pilgrims.
