Description:
On 21 December 2005, peer educators and sex workers undergoing Durbar's adult education programme at Abinash clinic, Sonagachi, are divided into three groups based on their literacy level and tested on what they have learnt in a written exam and an oral test. During the oral test, 42-year-old peer educator Angur Das is quizzed on the three-R philosophy of Durbar [Respect, Reliance and Recognition] and the main routes of transmission for STDs. One key component of Durbar's literacy programme is conversation. The main problem for the peer educators is that they know their work very well but they hesitate to express themselves, which is what the conversation component aims to address.
