Description:
A woman from the ethnic Huaorani community, bathing in the river. The Huaorani, or Waos are native Amerindians from the Amazonian Region of Ecuador. Recognized mainly due to their warrior image, the Huao, their culture and territory are threatened by the invasion of western commercial pretensions. The illegal cutting of trees, the unscrupulous petroleum exploitation, the inter-ethnic confrontations and the corrupt proceedings of some of their leaders, have endangered the Huao habitat during this century, in a geographic zone where the only things that do not lack are the Coca Cola and Pilsener beer companies. Coca, Orellana province, in Ecuador. 2006.
