Message from Shahidul Alam

Dear Friends, This is my first post since leaving the Keraniganj facilities kindly provided by my government. I am in hospital now for checkups and will be here for a few more days. Doctors suggest surgery (nothing too serious). Will write again when the dust has settled. I owe so much to so many all across the globe. Thank you all for the wonderful messages of solidarity and support. Not only did it enable my release, but was the light shining through the jail bars that kept me going.

It was heartening to see that we were able to resist to such an extent, despite the establishment being materially so powerful. People power!

In this Light by Rupert Grey, QC

Rupert Grey, QC, one of the most respected legal minds in the UK, specialist in intellectual property rights, an avid photographer and traveller has written a significant chapter on Dr. Shahidul Alam. This has been published in the book, In this Light, which has been brought out by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the senior bishop and principal leader of the Church of England, the symbolic head of the worldwide Anglican Communion and the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Canterbury. The current archbishop is Justin Welby, who was enthroned at Canterbury Cathedral on 21 March 2013.

It gives an insight into his long relationship with Shahidul, the compassionate and humane qualities which have made him a global figure, a social activist and renowned photographer.

The book has been released with 30,000 copies for Christmas and is on sale in most major outlets.
