The Sigiriya or Lion's rock is an ancient rock fortress with a castle, most popular for the ancient paintings, very similar to the paintings of India's Ajanta Caves. Situated in Matale District of Sri Lanka, it was built during the reign of King Kasyapa, 477 495 AD. It is one of the seven World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka and is also a popular tourist destination. June 2007.
